Suns Down Three to Two

A blast-right-by-them style has served the Suns well against the Trail Blazers. And tempo will likely be a deciding factor on Thursday night when Phoenix visits Portland with a 3-2 advantage and a chance to advance to the next round of the playoffs. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM on KGW, TNT and 95.5. While the Trail Blazers have home court for Thursday's game, Portland coach Nate McMillan is counting on the intangibles to force a Game 7. Namely, the Trail Blazers have faced their share of obstacles this season and far exceeded expectations. "It's a huge challenge to win the series," McMillan said. "But not an impossible challenge."

Throughout the regular season, the Portland Trail Blazers rarely found themselves on the bad end of blowout losses. But in their first round series against the Phoenix Suns, the Blazers have been unable to keep the losses close. Game 5 was no exception, as the Trail Blazers fell to the Suns 107-88 in Phoenix. Also down 3-2 in the series, the Trail Blazers now face elimination as the series heads back to Portland for Game 6 on Thursday. The Trail Blazers jumped out to a quick start in the first quarter, taking an early 23-9 lead six minutes into the game, but the early success came with a cost.

2 wins and 2 losses

In a must-win Game #4, the Portland Trail Blazers brought it for 48 minutes as they defeated the Phoenix Suns 96-87. The win was inspired by the return of the Trail Blazers All-Star guard, Brandon Roy. Roy who had surgery 8 days prior returned to game action to contribute 10 points off the bench, including a 3 pointer in the 4th to keep the Trail Blazers in the game.

Friday night, Roy decided it was time to be childish. Rather than accept the decision of his coaches to sit out a must-win Game 4 just eight days after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery, Roy did something one might not expect from a grown man: he begged.

Game #5 will be played in Phoenix on Monday, tip-off 7:30pm. Game #6 at the Rose Garden will be played on Thursday, April 29th.

Lost Game 3

For the second straight game, the Portland Trail Blazers were badly outplayed in the first quarter by the Phoenix Suns, digging themselves a hole that would prove to be insurmountable. Behind 42 points from Jason Richardson, the Suns beat the Trail Blazers 108-89 on Portland's home court to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

Lost Game 2

Just because you can see something coming doesn't always mean that you can stop it from happening. Game 2 in Phoenix was a perfect example of that. The Trail Blazers figured the Suns would come out more aggressive in Game 2, which they did, and after taking the first game of the series, one could sense a letdown looming in Game 2 for Portland, which it was. The combination of those two unsurprising yet unstoppable events resulted in the Trail Blazers being soundly beaten by the Suns 119-90 Tuesday night at US Airways Arena. Game #3 is in the Rose Garden on Thursday at 7:00pm.

Newa over the Weekend

Portland won Game One 105-100 for the first time in seven tries. The Blazers last won the first game of a playoff series on May 7, 2000 in a semifinal series against the Jazz. This win takes home court advantage away from Phoenix and places it in Portland. Portland is 15-1 all-time in playoff series when winning game 1 and just 3-24 when losing it. Game #2 is on Tuesday at 7:00pm. Also The Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy underwent successful arthroscopic surgery today on his right knee to repair a partial tear of the meniscus; it was announced by General Manager Kevin Pritchard. Roy, who will be sidelined for at least 1-2 weeks, will not travel with the team for the first two playoff games at Phoenix.

back-to-back 50-win season

With Brandon Roy out due to a right knee injury, defensive and rebounding specialist Marcus Camby (season-high 30 points) stepped up offensively as the Trail Blazers pulled away late for a 103-95 home victory over the Thunder on Monday. With their second straight win, the Trail Blazers assured themselves of a seed no lower than seventh in the West standings. LaMarcus Aldridge scored 15 points and Nicolas Batum added 12 for the Trail Blazers, who earned back-to-back 50-win seasons for the first time since 1999-2001. They also won the season series 3-1 against the Thunder.

They Finally Beat The Lakers

The Portland Trail Blazers win again. They beat the LA Lakers with 91 to 88. And they lost leading scorer Brandon Roy at halftime with a sore right knee. Portland (49-31) also snapped a five-game road losing streak against the Lakers while moving into a seventh-place tie with San Antonio in the Western Conference standings. Given the Trail Blazers' two-month surge, they probably don't care who they face: They haven't lost back-to-back games since Feb. 19-21. The Trail Blazers host Oklahoma City Monday night at the Rose Garden in a game that will likely decide which of the two teams will get the seventh seed. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 PM.
